A little about Gorham...

Gorham is a town in Cumberland County, Maine full of natural beauty and an active community. Gorham was first known as Narragansett Number 7, when it was one of the seven townships granted by the Massachusetts General Court to the soldiers who had fought in the Narragansett War of 1675. The town was incorporated as the town of Gorham in October of 1764. In 2013, Gorham was voted second best town in Maine after Hampden by a popular web-based financial company. Today, Gorham is a thriving community made up of more than 16,000 residents and it has still managed to maintain its quiet and comfortable village feel.

The town is home to numerous private and public areas and facilities available to Gorham residents for recreation. The friendly community of Gorham also offers a vast range of events and activities for all ages throughout the year. In July, The Gorham Founders Festival hosts a range of family-oriented fun. The festival features fair rides, a fund-raising auction, pancake breakfast, live entertainment, a 5k road race and a spectacular firework show to cap off the night. The town also features a range of ways to partake in sporting activities. For those who love to golf, the local Gorham Country Club features an absolutely gorgeous 18-hole championship golf course located on 180 acres of gently rolling terrain. 

Just a short drive away from Gorham is the state park at Sebago Lake, where visitors can delight in Maine’s deepest lake surrounded in part by beautifully forested land. Here, swimmers, anglers, boaters, wake-boarders and water skiers can all partake in their favorite water sports while making use of the park’s extensive facilities. Gorham Historical Society and Baxter House Museum

Several museums and historical societies in the town, such as the Baxter House Museum and the Gorham Historical Society help to maintain the town’s rich history and educate residents and visitors about the town. The Baxter House Museum is a free museum located in a house built back in 1797. The museum houses an impressive collection of objects donated by townspeople and hosts a variety of events throughout the year. The Gorham Historical Society helps to preserve the town’s history and hosts regular meetings with its many members. 

Gorham School District and University of Southern Maine Campus

Residents of Gorham are served by the Gorham School District. The school district has three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. Gorham High has excellent academics and extracurricular activities, with a range of AP courses, electives, and vocational programs offered to students. The school is also known for it’s athletic and dramatic achievements. Gorham is also home to one of the three campuses of the University of Southern Maine, making it an excellent place to achieve any level of education.
