A little about Falmouth...

Falmouth is a small, but vibrant, town in Cumberland County, Maine. The town lies just north of Portland along the coast of the state. This diverse and historic town is known for providing the setting for several short stories and novels by Stephen King, including Salem's Lot. The history of Falmouth dates back more than 10,000 years ago, when Native Americans settled in the area. In 1632, Arthur Mackworth was the first European resident to start a settlement in what would soon be known as Falmouth. In November of 1718, the town was officially incorporated, though the original boundaries extended much further than they do now, covering much of what is now Westbrook, Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, Portland and Falmouth. These other towns and cities eventually broke away, leaving the Falmouth area as we know it today.

Falmouth's Historical Sites and Natural Preserves

Falmouth is home to numerous historical sites of interest. The Falmouth Historical Society runs a Museum and Barn that is host to numerous events throughout the year. Falmouth also has facilities dedicated to preserving and bringing awareness to the area’s natural beauty. The Gilsland Farm Audubon Center is also in the town, located along the Presumpscot River estuary.
